Leaders of the Bartending School Industry

By far there are many great qualities and benefits of attending Bartending School. However, there are very few Bartending Schools that are innovative and actually care about the success of their graduates vs. just taking your tuition and never hearing from them again.

Bartending Schools like JC Bartending Academy teach students much more than just how to mix drinks. They also teach students how to earn money!  Statistics show that earning great money is the number one reason why people become bartenders. The second reason is the fast paced environment where you can meet new people and socialize.  Bottom line, bartending can be a very lucrative career but you must know the secrets of the trade to really earn top dollar in this industry.

There are many ways to earn top dollar and one of them is making a good drink quickly and accurately.  The only way to have speed and agility behind the bar is by practice, practice, practice and memorizing all of the basic drink recipes.   Good Bartending Schools like JC Bartending Academy provide students with hands-on practice behind a real bar which was strategically designed for any type of bartenidng setting including, hotels, restuaruants, night clubs and private parties.   JC Bartending Academy is also the only school in the nation with a proprietary software that is used during class hours to help you memorize hundreds of drink recipes more efficiently than any other school.

Remember, the top 10 things that will make you successful in the bartending industry, you are guaranteed to learn at JC Bartending Academy.  Don’t waste your time on things that you can learn on the job like operating a cash register since each establishment has their own system.   Use your time wisely in Bartending School to learn how to perfect your skills of mixing drinks and how to make serious money!

Lastly, when shopping around for the best Dallas Bartending School, listen to what the school staff members say and how they treat you.  If you’re treated badly or not provided with the best customer service before signing up, you will likely be treated that way after they get your money and you graduate.  At JC Bartending Academy, students are provided with the best customer service from start to finish because they care about your success in the industry and how well you represent the brand!  Bar managers have even said that JC Bartending Academy graduates are so much more prepared than others…..

Before Stardom: Celebrities Who Where Once Bartenders

It’s not just job, bartending is a career that could open doors for even more. Just being a bartender behind the bar, you never know who you may meet at your bar and what connections your customers have just by striking up a casual conversation with them. Those who have proven success beyond bartending are those who were sometimes in “the right place at the right time” or who understood the power they had as bartenders and used it to their advantage and became superstars!!

Some of the most famous celebrities who were once bartenders early in their careers are Bill Cosby, Bruce Willis, Chevy Chase, Dave Matthews, Ellen DeGeneres, Sandra Bullock and Tom Arnold. Other celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Kevin Bacon and Mariah Carey started as servers and probably would have become bartender if they had not been discovered.

While at Temple Bill Cosby took a job as a bartender in a neighborhood café. The bar had hired a comedian who often did not show up for his act. Cosby filled in, entertaining the crowd with jokes and humorous stories. His reputation as a funny bartender spread throughout the city. Cosby soon got offers to do stand-up comedy in other clubs.
Bruce Willis says “Very early in my time in New York City I lucked out and got a job as a bartender at Café Central on Amsterdam Avenue. It was just one shift a week but I saw it as a start to a very lucrative bartending career.”

School of Hard Knocks Is Not Always the Smartest Choice

Some feel that taking the hard road is the best way to learn the ropes and to earn stripes. In some cases it’s true. But just ask anyone who may be struggling…the school of hard knocks is not always the most desired approach, especially when there is an easier way. From an educational and financial stand point, the school of hard knocks is the silliest approach to take when it comes to Bartending School. Why would someone ever want to take a year to learn something that they can learn in 4 days by attending Bartending School? Why would someone want to wait a year to earn more money when they can start earning it in 4 days by graduating from Bartending School?

Now, let’s be clear, you will not know EVERYTHING there is to know about bartending by attending Bartending School alone. It takes practice and real life application for more than just 2 hours, to get the full hang of it. But what bartending school will do, is teach you the foundations of the industry to eliminate the silly mistakes and bad habits that takes some bartenders who didn’t go to Bartending School a year to figure out. PLUS it gets you behind the bar MUCH FASTER. Yes, some will argue that you should start as a server or a bar back and let the senior/head bartender teach you the ropes so there is no need to go to Bartending School. But just watching someone make a drink in the haste of doing your other job doesn’t teach you how to properly make the drink…and don’t forget about those bad habits that you will likely pick up if that senior bartender doesn’t know the proper techniques. You wouldn’t feel comfortable listening to someone tell you how to drive a car and then get behind the wheel to drive the car? Well bartending is the same thing. You need to practice and build confidence in order to become a successful bartender and you only get to do that after learning the foundations in Bartending School and getting out there and working behind a bar immediately.

The school of hard knocks may eventually get you there, but why not learn it in 4 days, gain immediate confidence and start earning money now while you build up your skills? It makes no sense to watch the head bartender make the drinks, have all the fun AND make all of the money while you watch on the sidelines for six months to a year. So whenever you hear someone bash or speak negatively about Bartending School or tell you that you don’t need to go to Bartending School, ask them have if they have ever been inside of a good dallas bartending school to know the large amount of information that is being taught. 9 times out of 10, they didn’t go to Bartending School and went the slow route through the school of hard knocks and they don’t want to see you do the smart thing and start making money faster. Plus, they probably don’t know that 80+% of graduates land bartending jobs after graduation? So take it from those in the educational profession….the school of hard knocks is not the smartest choice when it comes to investing into a lifelong skill and have the potential to earn thousands of dollars immediately.

7 Secrets to Becoming a Successful Bartender

JCBartendingAcademy

What’s The Bartending Success Factor?

Bartending is not rocket science but there is an art to being a successful bartender. Just because someone gets behind a bar and mixes a few drinks does not make them a bartender. There are many things to learn about what it takes to be a successful bartender that can be learned by attending an accredited bartending school or with many years of well rounded experience. There are really no “secrets” to being successful but there are basic things that a bartender must know and practice.

Know Your Customers

Whether in a bar or at a private party, bartenders should be able to quickly gauge their customers. Knowing your customer means interacting with them, asking and remembering their names, remembering their drink of the night and checking on them periodically. The quicker you get familiar with the crowd, the quicker you start to earn more tips and have more fun.

Put On Your Game Face

No matter how you feel while bartending, your face and attitude tells the story. The better the game face, the more successful you will be. When behind the bar, the bartender must always put on their game face. Bartenders need to be charismatic, greet guests with a smile, be personable, approachable and outgoing with patrons of their bar. This is critical to earning the bigger tips. Personality is one trait that cannot be taught and those bartenders who have a great personality are likely to earn the most and be the most successful.

Be Prepared

Always be ready for the unexpected. When working in an establishment with a bar, always anticipate the next move. For example, if the bar station is running low on fruit garnishes, refill them before they run out. The same applies for the alcohol, beer or wine. Running out of supplies or tools of the trade causes slow service and with slow service goes your tip. Mobile bartenders always need to be equipped with the right bartending supplies when bartending private parties or weddings. The more supplies you provide the better service you can offer your client. Clients will pay top dollar for a bartender who is prepared and takes some of the pressure off of them by providing things that they do not need to supply such as cocktail napkins, drink stirrers or fruit garnishes. To equip yourself with the proper bartending supplies & tools, visit http://barpros.barstore.com to purchase at a discounted rate.

Know The Bar Setting

Be comfortable in your environment and get familiar with the bar set up. The more comfortable a bartender is behind the bar, the better the service they can offer to each customer. Nothing looks worse than a bartender not knowing where things are and fumbling with the drink preparation. Confidence is a big part in making big tips so it is critical to know the bar and make it your territory.

Know Your Stuff

It takes time and experience to become a mixologist but it is very important to know a wide variety of drink recipes. Bartenders are faced with many customers who know exactly what they want to drink and those who are not sure of what they want and will ask for the bartender’s recommendation. When faced with this situation, bartenders need to know how to gauge the taste buds of the clients by asking if they want a strong drink, tropical drink, martini, etc. Knowing a wide variety of drink recipes also includes knowing what types of alcohol compliment various mixers and chasers. Know how to make a strong drinks and drinks for taste. If someone asks for a drink that you have not heard of, it’s okay to ask them what is in it. What’s not okay is looking up the recipe to the basic drinks like margaritas and dirty martinis.

Speed & Efficiency

The phrase, “work smarter not harder”, applies to the bartending industry as well. There are many ways to work quickly and efficiently and it is very important to also be accurate. This takes great listening and multi-tasking ability. One way to bartend with speed & efficiency is to use a common process when preparing drinks. Always put the coaster or napkin on the bar, grab all glassware, fill the glasses with ice, then make the drinks with common liquors together, top off the drinks, garnish and serve. This is much faster than making drinks individually since you are taking less time to turn and grab glassware, scoop ice and pick up liquor bottles multiple times.

Never Expect Tips

When tips are expected, often times bartenders get frustrated or disappointed with they don’t get the amount they expected. To prevent this frustration, bartenders should remain thankful for all tips they receive considering that tips are not mandatory and are based upon the level of service receive. If you apply these 7 principles and become a successful bartender, the tips will come!
